Don't start replacing expensive components without first checking your relays and switches. The radiators have additional cooling fans to pull cool air through them and help dissipate heat. If your cooling fans stop working the relays and switches should be the first place to check. Older cars are notorious for electrical problems and most of them can be traced to the wiring harness.
A wiring harness is a series or bundle of wires used to send electronic signals to and from electrical devices. They are usually wrapped in tape, conduit or cable ties.
They get old, dry and brittle. If you are having problems it is best to replace whole sections of the harness rather than individual wires. If your headlight motors stop working the relays and switches should be the first place you check. If your ignition switch stops working the relays and switches should be the first place you check. Here are a few situations we have seen: Issue 1 - Headlamp switch will work backwards: Turn on the switch and the headlights go off and turn off the switch and the headlights will go on.
Issue 2 - High beams will disappear. You will have no highbeams. We have seen both high beams burn out at the same time Issue 3 - High beams will not work only the low beams will.
You can sometimes fix this issue by removing the relay, taking off the cover and resoldering the connections on the relay bottom but in most cases you will have to replace the relay to cure the problem long term. NOTE from Jim Haines one of our contributors: Yep, my '04 kept having a bogus "failure" of just the driver side high beam that wasn't the lamp and "cured" itself.
Of course it waited until the warranty ran out!
On CSE refused to turn off with ignition key when the headlight relay was malfunctioning. I kid you not, pulled out the key the car kept running. I had been having some trouble with the headlight relay and the high beams were stuck on so I pulled out the relay and the engine shut off pronto. We have actually seen some issues with this.
Replacing the relay typically cures the issue. Our 93 had a similar issue. One evening the headlights did not come on at all. I checked the different light settings and nothing worked.
I replaced the bulbs the next day and it didn't completely solve the problem- the high beams worked but the low beams didn't work. I checked the front low beam fuses left and right and they were fine I brought it to a local shop and I was told that the Headlight Relay Control Module needed to be replaced. Bit steep, but this solved it. My Saab 93 was having high beam issues- The low beams worked just fine, but when I switched to high beam the right head light did what it was suppose to do; but the left one would go out completely I bought the orange and an easy install 2 min in the box near the firewall and whoo-hoo all worked just like they were suppose to and my dash indicator by my speedometer works now too.
My Saab 95 driver side high beam went out. Removed and opened the lamp relay. Observed bad solder connection on PCB to base connector. Re-soldered all the connections and re-installed the relay.
Replacement is the best solution because this seems to have to be done over and over again. Thanks to Brian for contributing to this FAQ! I am not a car mechanic but grew up on the farm and fix everything myself if I can. I am the original owner of a Saab SE. Both of my high beams went out. I checked the bulbs fine conditionseparated the orange housing from the pcb and viewed cracks in the soldered lead connections. Re-flowed the solder and everything works fine. This repair will only work if the circuit board is not broken.
If your blue indicator light is not coming on but you hear the relay clicking you very likely need to replace it. Cockpit indicator came on "Headlight Out. Both came on for 5 seconds and then went out.Ad vertisements.

It was known to enthusiasts as the OG old generation and internally as body style Saab claimed that 1, changes were made, including a revised suspension in an attempt to tighten up the handling characteristics of its predecessor, the Saab — model.
It was available as a three or five-door hatchbackand as a two-door convertible. It was the last small Saab to use the company's H engine.
Other notable changes were stronger AC compressor and a switch to an hydraulically operated convertible top instead of electric. For the U. A Saab innovation is the ' Night Panel ', carried over from the Saabwhich permits dousing of the instrument panel lighting, except for essential information, for less distraction when night driving.
A total offirst generation s were built. As with the preceding generation, convertibles were built by Valmet in Uusikaupunki, Finland. Valmet was also the only plant assembling the Viggen, in all three bodystyles. Altogether, Valmet built Hatchbacks of all models. A high-powered version of the Saabthe "Viggen" English: Thunderboltwas marketed from to It was named after the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft.
The Viggen included a turbocharged 2. The cars were equipped with a higher capacity intercooler, performance tuned ECU, flow through muffler and tip, heavy duty clutch and pressure plate, stiffened and lowered springs, firmer dampers, as well as stronger CV joints and driveshafts. Inthe Viggen was the first to use Saab's Trionic 7 engine management system.
The car featured a rear wing that required relocating the radio antenna, aerodynamically designed bumpers and side skirts, special bolstered and colored leather seats in four colors: black with black inserts charcoalblack with blue inserts deep blueblack with orange inserts flame ochreor tan with tan insertssportier suspension, as well as bigger wheels and upgraded brakes.

Other than the diesel engines, all the first generation engines were versions of the Saab H engine. The Non-Turbo models use a Distributor, and Leads to each Spark Plug, while the Turbocharged engines utilise Saab's Trionic engine management system which works hand in hand with the Direct Ignition Module or Cassette mounted to the top of the engine, directly connecting to the spark plugs.
The later two technologies were migrated into other GM products during the ten years that GM controlled Saab.Hey all. I'm having some AC issues with my Up until a week ago, my AC was flawless and extremely cold, then last week, it just stopped coming on. The AC button LED still lights, but there is no increased work on the engine and the compressor never engages. I've checked all fuses even ones not remotely related just to err on the side of caution they're all fine.
The cabin fan still works on all speeds, so no issues there. The belt appears fine, no tearing or obvious wear. It's interesting to note that the cabin recirculation button doesn't seem to work either. Any ideas where i can start for a solution? There weren't any little kids screwin' around with the controls? SilverStone answered 7 years ago.
I wish it was kids. Sadly, this is an adult ish owned vehicle without any kiddos to factor in. There is a clutch on the front of the compressor that will enable when it is given 12 Volts Thanks so much Judge! One comment on the AC control panel, it's a fully enclosed module with a multi-pin connector.
I've had to remove it when adding a bluetooth kit to the head unit. I like your idea of testing the connector to the clutch. I wasn't sure if it was wise to disconnect this while the car is running, but if the compressor isn't turning on anyway, what the hell. I also appreciate the pigtail suggestion. Just eyeballing the space around the connector makes it look like a challenge to get my hands in there, much less a Fluke meter.
Confessin' I cannot find a fuse for air conditioning in the fuse panel Judge, i think i may have shot myself in the foot.
I was sittin' in the car after work looking at the AC control panel and figured, why not check the connector now.Subsequently, the company merged with the Scania truck manufacturer, and by had passed under the control of the General Motors concern. InGeneral Motors sold Saaband by the company ceased production of cars.
