You can view the partition details by using the partedUtil and specifying the " getptbl " option and the device. Unable to remove device: Can not destroy disk group for SSD naa.
This then prevents you from destroying the disk group. So there is an extra step required if you choose automatic mode and you will need to run the following ESXCLI command to disable it:. If you are not sure, you can always perform a "get" operation to check whether automatic claim mode is enabled. Once that has been disabled, you will now be able to destroy the diskgroup by running the original command above:.
I have an interesting twist on this — I had an eval VSAN license deployed in my cluster that expired. Have you seen this, and is there a way to determine where the configuration is hung up? All of my hosts show no vsan storage enabled, automode is disabled, etc.
Appreciate any suggestions. Hi William, just quick update instead of: esxcli vsan storage remove —s naa. I just found this article as I did a hardware wipe of the vSAN disks after which the host to joined the cluster. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.

The above sizing is all well and good if you are only using a single FTT method, however vSAN allows you to define policies with different FTT levels which means you can have objects on vSAN that have varying levels of protection, this makes sizing using the above method all the more difficult. The best way to size the cache in a Hybrid cluster is to base it on your deployed or provisioned capacity, for example in the above RAW capacity of We all know there is a write buffer limit in vSAN but that does not mean you should limit the size of the SSD drives based on that, the main reason is to increase the endurance of the drive, vSAN will cycle through all the cells on the drive irrelevant of the Write Buffer Limit.?

This happens if the disks already have a partition on them. In my case, the previous configuration had failed but the partition was written into the disks.
How do you check if there is an existing partition on the disks that are attached to your ESXi hosts? You can do this using the vSphere web client UI or using the command line tools. On the vSphere UI, you can navigate to the. This shows the current partitions and also gives you an option to format them but does not work most of the times. When it comes to command line tools, you can either use the fdisk tool or the partedUtil.
Additional steps required to completely disable VSAN on ESXi host
I would suggest using the partedUtil tool as fdisk is deprecated. The command to be used :. Now to delete this partition, we will have to use the esxcli command line as shown in this KB Article. First run the list command. You can either recreate the disk group using the esxcli commands or go back to the UI and configure the vSAN cluster.
The disks will be available now. Skip to content I would like to start this blog post by wishing my readers a Happy New Year ! One comment Add yours. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The cache includes the text, images, and most other media contained on web pages that you've visited.
