A dirty refrigerator compressor or condenser coils are common causes of poor fridge performance. Make sure to pull the fridge out once in awhile and give the coils a thorough cleaning with a damp cloth and dish soap. Your fridge draws a respectable amount of current, and no maintenance should be performed on your unit without first ensuring power has been terminated. Before restoring the power, make sure the back of the unit has had adequate time to fully dry. A steady hum usually means the compressor is working as intended.
Modern fridges are, however, much quieter, and may require you to access the back of the unit to ensure the compressor is running. In either case, if your compressor makes a clunking, creaking, mechanical noise, this is a bad sign. Your fridge also contains a condenser fan typically situated next to the compressor unit. This fan should spin freely on normal operation, but can also become blocked by debris, spills, or an errant wire or piece of hardware.
Inspect the fan to ensure it is clean and spins free of any blockage. Try plugging the fridge back in to make sure the fan is operating correctly; if not, you may need to replace the fan assembly. A good way to check for proper fan and compressor performance is to leave the doors open on the fridge for a few minutes while plugged in.
See if the compressor fails to engage or the fan fails to spin as the cool air empties from the unit.
If the compressor is clicking on and off, or worse, not running at all, check the start relay. This is a small box on the side of the compressor with several wires feeding in and out. Often, the relay can perform poorly if it is very dirty, or if one or more wires have been loosened from repeated wear.
Make sure the relay is clean, and that all wiring is properly fed and secured. If this does not address the problem and the compressor continues to operate incorrectly or not at allyou may unfortunately have a blown compressor that will require replacement. Inside your freezer, you will see several vents on the back of the compartment. These must not be blocked in order for the fridge to properly circulate cold air. Or if you want to speed up the defrosting process, you will need a steamer and you can defrost evaporator coils in 15 minutes. High compression ratios are the result of either lower than normal suction pressures or higher than normal discharge pressures. For this reason, it is important to keep the suction pressure at its highest possible value. Causes of low suction pressure can include incorrect sizing of components, misadjusted or defective metering devices TXVsloss of refrigerant charge, plugged driers or strainers, and excessive suction line pressure drop.
Although not as sensitive to change as the suction pressure, the discharge pressure can still greatly affect the compression ratio. Keeping the discharge pressure within normal operating conditions is still important. Causes of high discharge pressure can include dirty condensing coils, undersized discharge line, a blockage or recirculation of condenser air, erratic condenser fan operation, refrigerant overcharge, noncondensibles in the system, and an undersized condenser.
Many larger refrigeration systems with electronic controllers will automatically monitor the temperature of the discharge line and will send out an alarm to alert the owner or service contractor of a potential problem.
Regardless of how the discharge line temperature is monitored, it should always be checked as part of any service to a refrigeration system. A technician should also check the discharge line temperature within 6 inches from the outlet of the compressor.
Any temperature above degrees should be investigated and the cause found and repaired. The only ones I've seen go bad are in households that have dogs or cats that like to chew or sharpen their claws on them, or kids that climb or hang on the refrigerator door. A really bad door seal problem is most likely to show up as a defrost problem, due to humid air getting into the fridge.
To replace the seal, you must have a nut driver of the proper size. A power nutdriver is better. A magnetic tip may prevent you from going crazy trying to hold the driver, the screw and the seal at the same time.
There are lot of screws holding the seal on. One side at a time is better. The idea is to prevent the plastic inner door liner or shelving from drifting around — if you have to re-align it, it can be a long, frustrating, trial-and-error process.

The board is easy to replace. Unplug fridge 2. Unscrew back panel where board is located 3. Remove old board with wires attached 4. Pull off wires and connect to new board one at a time 5. Secure the new board to the fridge with the screws from the old board 6.
Secure back panel 7. Plug fridge in and hope for the best. Refrigerator Compressor. If you are getting V AC to the compressor but the compressor is NOT running when it should be, then the compressor probably has a short and needs replaced. Check the wiring the compressors wiring to be completely sure it is bad.
If the compressor is bad, it makes more sense sometimes to just buy a new refrigerator. Check around online and see what your best option may be.

Unplugging, the compressor cools down over several hours and then re plugging the freezer it starts working but only for 6 or even 24 hours then stops again I suppose when the compressor overheats.
I need to know how to wire a Westinghouse Refrigerator bjt-r. It is an Australian model that has the capacitor the overload relay and the start relay. I have trio GE refrigerator model Pfs22sisbss and the compressor is not kicking in i replaced the mother board on the back of the unit … and then i noticed i am not getting volts on the main harness of the mother board where you can bypass line and compressor.
